The Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club is a recreational and competitive speed skating club that offers learn to skate programs for all ages and abilities. From September to March, the Blizzard program offers short track (inside a hockey rink) and long track (a 400 meter oval) practices and competitions to skaters aged four to adult. Our certified coaches promote the development of skating fundamentals and athlete development in accordance to the Long Term Participant and Athlete Development Plan. All Blizzard members belong to the BC Speed Skating Association and Speed Skating Canada. Remember to skate fast and turn left!
August 19, 2016 - Mornings are crisp and cool, school is soon to start, and bears have been seen getting fat for the winter - it can only mean one thing...speed skating starts soon! The Registration Package for the 2016/17 PG Blizzard season will soon be posted. Registration will be happening over two days: the first registration date will be for returning skaters only (please, no new skaters) Thursday, September 8 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the north entrance to the Kin 1 Arena (nearest the horse barns).
The second registration will be for new skaters and anyone who missed the previous registration session, on Thursday, September 15 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the same location.
If you know any one who would like to give Speed Skating a try, we are excited to introduce a new Youth Learn to Skate program. This program is available to youth athletes new to speed skating and includes 10 ice sessions, skate rental, and fees for $100. Practices will be on Tuesdays with the Fundamentals group. This program is available only to skaters who have not been registered with the BC Speed Skating Association or Speed Skating Canada. Please check back for more details as they become available.
Please note, that we do not have the capacity to take visa/mastercard, so payment will be by cheque or cash only. As well, please note that post dated cheques are required for the fundraising levy and skate rental deposit if skate rental is needed.
Once again, the PG Blizzard will have a booth at the Active Living Mart at Pine Centre Mall on September 10 and 11, 2016. We will be seeking assistance with setting up and manning the booth over the weekend. Please check back for more information.
Finally, the practice schedule will be posted to the calendar soon. Please check back for updates.
Hope to see you in September!
October 25, 2015 - The number one concern in sport is injury prevention. In sports such as speed skating, hockey, football, and rugby, where impact occurs, concussion recognition and prevention are a key part of the equation. To this end, BCSSA has provided to clubs a Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool. Feel free to make a copy and keep it handy for any activites that you or your family might be involved in. Feel free to pass it on. Feel free to talk to your coach if you have any questions.
September 16, 2014 - The PG Blizzard received some great press about our upcoming season from CKPG TV. Check it out here.
