Week of January 7, 2018

7/1/2018

Congratulations to all our Blizzard athletes on a fantastic day of skating this Saturday at the PG Long Track interclub competition. The ice was in great condition, and Mother Nature seems to have heard Keri's request for warmer temperatures (but not too warm). Many new PBs were set by our skaters!

Thank you to all the volunteers - Officials and helping hands - for helping to make the meet so successful. Without you we could not offer our athletes the opportunity to compete on the Outdoor Oval.

The Oval Ice Team did an amazing job getting the ice ready for Saturday - THANK YOU!!

Congratulations to Keri McLeod (meet coordinator) and Kari Rae (meet recorder). These ladies are the cornerstones of our meets and put in a significant amount of work both up to and on the day of the meet. Great work ladies! Kari has provided the meet protocol if anyone has questions about the races. Results will be available on the BCSSA website very soon.

1. Fundraising

Thank you to all that bought 50/50 tickets at our Long Track Meet this past Saturday.

We are now entering the last half of the season.  Thank you to everyone that has been fundraising with Operation Red Nose, Purdy's Chocolates, Save On Foods, Bottle Returns, and Fundscrip.  Just a reminder that Save On Foods, Bottle Returns and Fundscrip are on going.  With the Coyote Cup fast approaching, why not buy some gift cards from Fundscrip to use while down in Kamloops.  Purdy's Easter Catalogue are coming soon so keep an eye for them in the change rooms.

If you are wondering where you are at with your levy, please email pgblizzard.fundraising@gmail.com. If you have bottle return receipts or Save On Food Gift Card purchase receipts, you can give them to Elaina or Amber.

Thanks, Elaina

2. Meet Entry

Hi Everyone - Lots to read, so please make sure you review this in it's entirety if you are planning on attending either of the following as there are several deadlines:
  • Coyote Cup in Kamloops on Jan 27
  • BCLT meet on Jan 20,21
  • Fort St. James fun day on Jan 13

If you haven't yet paid for the PG meet that just past, please bring it to me this TUES so I can complete this.

Ft. St. James:
On Sat Jan 13 there will be a "fun day" of racing (non-sanctioned) from 10am-2pm on their outdoor oval. Entry is $5 / skater. Forms and $ due this TUES Jan 9!

BCLT Fort St. John:
On Sat and Sun Jan 20 and 21, the BC Long Track Champs will be held in Fort St. John at their indoor oval. Please submit all registration forms and $ by this TUES Jan 9 with your new Long Track times from our PG meet (if they are personal bests).

Coyote Cup Kamloops:
On Sat Jan 27, the Coyote Cup short track meet will be held in Kamloops. Deadline for entries is TUES Jan 18.

Although not yet confirmed, there is potentially a bus that will be travelling from Prince George on Friday afternoon Jan 26 to Kamloops and returning to Prince George Saturday night Jan 27 after the meet. I will be sending out more information regarding this once it is confirmed. Please let me know if you are interested in taking the bus, if you haven't already. Cost and more info to come.

I have blocked 10 rooms at the Holiday Inn on Tranquille Rd, near the rink, at a rate of $109 for the Friday night (2 queens) . If you would like to book one of these rooms, please do so individually and advise reception that you are with the Prince George Blizzards. Rooms are only blocked until Jan 17.

3. BC Long Track Qualifications

All the Division 4 skaters in yesterday’s meet have met the below 28 second time standard for L2T BC Long Track.  This meet may not be on some families’ radar.  Entries need to be to in to Emily by Tuesday night, so decisions to attend need to be made quickly!  If anyone has any questions, they are welcome to email me at cmasich@shaw.ca or phone me at 250 614 1406.  They may also speak with their respective coaches and/or Kari Rae (who is setting up the FUNale).  All skaters are welcome to participate in the Long Track FUNale, being held at the same time.

This is a two day meet, with a banquet.  The distances skated by the L2T skaters are:  Day1:  300m heat and final; 2000m final; and a flying one lap team pursuit and on Day 2:  100m heat and final and a 1200m Superfinal.

Regards, Corine

Thank you, and have a great week!
