Congratulations to all our Blizzard athletes on a fantastic day of skating this Saturday at the PG Long Track interclub competition. Thank you to all the volunteers - Officials and helping hands - for helping to make the meet so successful. Without you we could not offer our athletes the opportunity to compete on the Outdoor Oval. The Oval Ice Team did an amazing job getting the ice ready for Saturday - THANK YOU!! Congratulations to Keri McLeod (meet coordinator) and Kari Rae (meet recorder). These ladies are the cornerstones of our meets and put in a significant amount of work both up to and on the day of the meet. Great work ladies! Good evening Blizzard Families, This week is the last week before Christmas holidays, there will not be any Short Track ice sessions between December 17th and January 2nd. Santa Skate is this Tuesday, December 12th. It's a very busy week for news! ********************************************************************************** 1. Santa Skate - Siblings Please email me (pgblizzard.registrar@gmail.com) by 5pm tomorrow if you will be bringing skater's siblings to participate in the Santa Skate. The coaches have agreed that siblings can join in the on-ice portion of the Santa Skate. All youth skaters on the ice should wear the following safety equipment - helmet, cut-proof gloves, neck guard and knee pads. Parents will need to fill out a Special Event Skater registration form. I will have those available on Tuesday night. 2. Long Track Practices Practices will be every Wednesday and Saturday, including over the Christmas break, weather and ice permitting. Fort St James, on January 13, is just a fun meet; therefore, I can coach at that meet if there are enough interested families (skaters planning to attend BCLT, should consider not racing three weekends in a row). I will be coaching our Blizzard skaters at BCLT January 20/21. - LT Coach Corine Masich 3. January/February Meets Registration forms are ready for the PG Long Track meet Jan 6! If you could possibly bring your forms and cheques THIS WEEK to practice (Tues or Thurs) I would so greatly appreciate not having to scramble, trying to find out who is going over Christmas holidays! Very very much appreciated!! Please find info attached. Also, please see below for info on upgrading for people who have been helping out by officiating. I just wanted to send out the January Race calendar so everyone is aware of what is coming. January has competitions every weekend somewhere! Jan 6- PG Long Track Interclub at the Oval Jan 13- Ft. St. James Long Track Fun skate. This is no longer a meet, but just a day of fun for skaters. Info to come. Jan 20-12- BCLT Champs Ft. St. John (indoor long track) Jan 27- Coyote Cup Kamloops (Short track) End of February is BC Winter Games and BC Short track Champs for those who qualify. Another Vanderhoof meet is planned for March 10. Those of you who took the Level 1 Officials Course in November or have taken it before, you may be eligible to "upgrade" to become a Level 1 Official in your specific position of interest. For example, if you were a timer at our ST meet in November and then assist in that position at our next meet in January, you can ask to be evaluated at that meet (as long as it's possible) and then submit an online form requesting an upgrade to become a "Level 1 timer". I have attached the requirements for each position, so have a look. If you are interested, please email me directly theakerley6@gmail.com and let me know so we can see about arranging an eval to take place this new year. Good morning Blizzard families,
This Tuesday, December 12th, is the annual Blizzard Santa Skate. All skaters are invited to join in the fun and activities on the ice starting at ~5:45pm. Younger skaters will be on the ice until ~6:45. Older skaters can be on the ice until ~7:30pm. After being on the ice, skaters are invited to visit with Santa in the Kin 1 meeting room (located above the north Kin Centre entryway). We are asking families to bring one snack for sharing (potluck style). Sweet and savoury snacks are always welcome, and healthy snacks are also popular with the kids. Children will be able to visit with Santa and will receive a small gift. Siblings of Blizzard skaters are invited to participate in off-ice activities, however please email me (Kessie) if siblings will be participating so that we are prepared and no-one misses out. Please email me at pgblizzard.registrar@gmail.com by 5pm on Monday evening. All Learn to Skate skaters are invited to participate in the Santa Skate. If you have any questions, don`t hesitate to ask. Seasons Greetings, Kessie. pgblizzard.registrar@gmail.com Good evening Blizzard families,
Yet again, my apologies for a belated email blast :) Congratulations to all our athletes who competed in Vanderhoof and Dawson Creek this past weekend. Our skaters continue to set personal bests as the season continues. It was also wonderful to see so many Blizzards participating in the Jamboree at lunch in Vanderhoof - these are our Active Start skaters, usually under 6 years of age. All those games sure looked like fun! Congratulations also to Kari Rae, our Meet Recorder extraordinaire! I believe she is scheduled to meet record at 11 (!?!) events this year, and is working her way towards becoming a Level 3 Meet Recorder. Dawson Creek was another step towards that goal. Go Kari!!! *********************************************************************************** 1. Long Track Practice - Starting this Wednesday Long track Coach Corine will be starting practices at the oval this Wednesday evening. All skaters are invited as Sylvia is coming to guide the younger ones. Practice starts at 7pm but the older skaters should be there ready for a warm-up at 6:30. Please dress warmly and in layers. Bring a hot drink along with your water as there will be breaks as required. Season Pass / Membership: www.pgoval.ca/fees--schedule.html Our coaches gladly volunteer their time but we do have to pay for the ice. Fees for the ice are $2 per day or $5 per family. We encourage all families to support the oval by purchasing a family membership, form attached. 2. December Mats for Tuesday FUNdamentals Reminder that parents are needed to help put out mats before FUNdamentals practice in December (Tuesday Dec 5th and Dec 12th). Please be at Kin1 by 5:15 to help. 3. PG Blizzard Board Meeting Reminder to Board members and coordinators of the meeting this Wednesday evening. Please provide reports to Kari by the end of the day tomorrow, pgblizzard.president@gmail.com. 4. Also, Keri will be recruiting volunteers for officials and various other tasks before and on race day. No previous experience necessary, many hands make light work! ********************************************************************************* Thanks, and have a great week! Kessie. Kessie Konwicki, Registrar PG Blizzard Speed Skating Club on behalf of the PG Blizzard Board of Directors Good evening PG Blizzard families,
Important information for Masters and FUNdamentals/Learn to Skate families for this week. This Saturday, December 2nd, there will be no FUNdamentals practice (7:45 to 8:30 Saturday mornings) due to conflict with the Vanderhoof Clippers Interclub Competition. The Saturday Masters practice will be held as usual (6:00 to 7:30 Saturday mornings). Thank you, Kessie. Kessie Konwicki, Registrar PG Blizzard Speed Skating Club pgblizzard.registrar@gmail.com Good evening Blizzard families,
What a fantastic day of skating yesterday! Congratulations to our skaters who qualified for the BC Winter Games, achieved their times to be eligible for BC Short Track provincials in March, or achieved one or more Personal Bests (PBs). Also congratulations to our eight skaters who competed in their first meet! Thank you to the skaters, friends and family, coaches and meet volunteers. It takes a village to make our meets successful. A big Blizzard shout out to Keri McLeod, who successfully coordinated her first speed skating meet. Keri - you did an amazing job - recruiting volunteers; setting up for the athletes and officials; and making sure the meet ran smoothly. Great job Kari!! *********************************************************************************** 1. FUNDRAISING - PURDY'S ORDERS Reminder that all Purdy's orders must be paid for (online) before Amber can finalize the club's Christmas order. The order must be posted by November 28th. Orders not completed by the time that the club order is posted will be automatically removed. Amber will be in touch with you if there is an outstanding issue with your order. 2. ICE OVAL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Ice Oval is still seeking volunteers to assist the ice maintenance team. This is a great way to support our long track skaters - while fulfilling your dream of driving a zamboni. Check out the Oval Facebook page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/outdooroval 3. MATS on TUESDAYS in DECEMBER During December the FUNdamentals group parents will need to be at the rink by 5:15pm to help get the mats out onto the ice. This includes the parents of our Tuesday Learn to Skate families. Thank you for your help! ********************************************************************************* Thank you and have a great week!
