Good evening Blizzard families,
Halloween is almost here! Quick reminder that there is no ice this Tuesday, October 31st, all other regularly scheduled ice sessions will go ahead. This week we would like to acknowledge all the hard work that Keri McLeod is doing to prepare for our upcoming interclub meet - the Central Interior Challenge. Meet Coordination is a new role for Keri and she has big shoes to fill! Thank you Keri! Happy Trick or Treating to all the kids and kid-at-hearts. Have a fun and safe Halloween. ************************************************************************************** 1. Safety and Security Hi Blizzard families, There was incident at the rink on Thursday that we would like to share as a reminder to be alert to risks for safety. At the end of practice, when the mats were being taken off the ice, an individual wandered in to the rink and snatched the purse of one of the parents. The purse was left on the ground, just outside the ice surface, while removing the mats Thanks to the quick action of a few other parents, the offender was detained, police were called, and there was no loss of property. While this story ended well, it was a very good reminder to all of us that, although we all feel very much at home at Kin 1, it is a public place with potential risk of theft or other incidents. Please remember to watch your valuables, just in case this were to happen again. Sincerely, Blizzard Board 2. Blizzard Meet - November 25th - Officials/Volunteers Needed Meet Coordinator Keri McLeod is seeking volunteers to help out with our Central Interior Challenge interclub meet on November 25th. There are lots of positions which can be filled by club members, friends and family, which don't require any experience. Every helping hand is appreciated. ***************************************************************************************** Thank you, Kessie Konwicki, Registrar on behalf of the PG Blizzard Board of Directors Good evening Blizzard families,

Anyone interested, please let me know directly, by email theakerley6@gmail.com. Cost will be covered by the BCSSA. Taking this course does not commit you to anything. It is beneficial to anyone new or old to speed skating and officiating and/or it will allow you the potential to become a Level 1 Official in your interested position after assisting at some meets during the year, if you so choose. So as many of you know, our meets are all run by volunteers! In order for the meets to run for our kids, there needs to be parent volunteers that are willing to help out. So, please consider officiating this season! You don't need any experience to get started and you can chose a position that might interest you. Most start out with timing, place judging or even helping kids get their skate guards on after a race. There are other positions such as:
For those of you who have officiated before in one of these positions and are interested in Upgrading to a Level 1 Official by the end of the season, in the position that you've been practicing, please let me know and I can help find out what you need to do. Anyone interested in helping out at the PG meet on Nov.25, see Kerri Mcleod, the Meet Coordinator, or let me know. Lots of information! I'm still learning too! If you have any questions please email me directly at theakerley6@gmail.com or corner me at practice. If I don't know the answer, I can find someone who does! Thank you! Any Q email me directly theakerley6@gmail.com. Emily AKERLEY Meet Entry Coordinator Officials Liaison 4. Equipment Here is a quick reminder of safety equipment that is required to be worn by all skaters for short track https://www.bcspeedskating.ca/skate-with-us/required-equipment/ Quick reminder that Speed Skating Canada recommends that helmets have a lifespan of 5 years, please check the date in your helmet to confirm it is safe for your skater to wear on the ice. Also, the club is looking for donations of soft guards for our learn to skate program. If you have an older pair that are no longer in use please bring them to Dave Konwicki, Equipment Manager. 5.
