Week of February 11, 2018

11/2/2018

Good evening Blizzard families,

Congratulations to all our Blizzard athletes who competed in the Iceman today! In addition to skating, our members also competed as runners. We also had (at least) two Associate members who completed the entire competition on their own - congrats Maisie and Simon! Also - big news from Quebec. PG Blizzard Kieran Hanson had a fantastic competition, he earned 5 medals and was awarded the overall title for the Male-14 category at the Canadian Age Class Long Track competition. Congratulations, Kieran. See the attached picture of Kieran with his hardware.

Our Team Canada athletes are putting in some great performances on the Olympic ice in Korea. I'm sure they are providing inspiration for current and future speed skaters. Its exciting to watch.

Blizzard athletes will also be heading to BC Winter Games in for February 22-25th - best wishes for a great competition for all of you.

2. Fundraising - Skate-A-Thon and Pub Night

Skate-a-Thon is this Tuesday, February 13. We are starting at 5:45 for the Fundamentals and younger Intermediates.  The start time for older Intermediates and Advanced is 7:00. Each group skates for an hour.  Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and bring a pencil or pen to record laps.  We will have the lap counting sheets there.  All pledge money collected goes towards your fundraising levy.  Please note, your child does not have to get pledges in order to skate.

Pub Night is this Sunday, February 18 from 5pm to 8pm at the Westwood Pub. Tickets will be available for purchase at the rink on Tuesday for $25.  $10 of the ticket purchase goes towards your fundraising levy.  We have some great Silent Auction items up for grabs.

Week of February 4, 2018

4/2/2018

Good evening PG Blizzard families,

We are back to our regularly scheduled ice times this week - however, please be aware that Advanced Group practice on Family Day - Monday Feb. 12th - is cancelled.

Our athletes are working hard to get ready for BC Winter Games, Canada Age Class Long Track and BC Short Track (provincial championships) early in March. If you have the opportunity, check out the Olympic short track and long track speed skating events over the next few weeks - there are going to be some exciting competitions on both tracks.

Otherwise it's a slow news week!

1. Oval - Iceman Volunteers

The Iceman is this coming Sunday, February 11th. Fingers crossed for excellent skating weather. The Outdoor Ice Oval ice crew will be doing their amazing work to make sure that Iceman skaters have the best possible skating surface. The Iceman also needs several volunteers to help out at the Oval on race day. If you are available to assist, please contact Keri Rae at pgblizzard.president@gmail.com.

Volunteers are needed to support and coordinate participants, manage crowds and many other tasks. No experience necessary.

2. Fundraising

A reminder that there are several fundraising opportunities available right now. Skate-a-thon is coming up soon, the Pub Night fundraiser is Sunday February 18th (tickets are $25), and the Easter Purdys order is now open.

If you have questions please contact Elaina or Amber at pgblizzard.fundraising@gmail.com.

Have a great week!

Kessie.
