Good evening Blizzard families, Suddenly January is ending and many of our athletes are are looking forward to BC Winter Games, BC Short Track Provincial Championships and beyond. Congratulations to all our athletes for outstanding performances at BC Long Track last weekend. Our two Masters competitors had excellent skates. Our Youth skaters also did very well - Nolan Vansickle (L2TB-male), Sarah Hanson (L2TB-female) and Kieran Hanson (T2T-14 male) all won their categories. Kieran and Jack Hanson have been selected to represent Team BC at the Canadian Age Class Class LT Championship in Quebec City on February 10-11th - way to go!! Big congratulations also to our athletes for their energy and exuberance at Coyote Cup. For the first time in recent history, the PG Blizzard achieved the top score winning the Coyote Cup runner-up with 15 skaters, compared to the Kamloops Long Blades 32 skaters. Congratulations team! And special congratulations to Camilla and Pippa Earl and Pareesa Jones who competed in their very first out of town meet. Of course, the meet could not have occurred without our own talented Meet Recorder, Kari Rae, who overcome last minute computer disaster brilliantly, and electronic timing expert Dustin Hudyma, who worked late into the night to set up the electronic timing system. Thanks folks, the meets could not achieve success without you. This was a big meet - 116 skaters from across the province! Here is our Blizzard news for the week. 1. Congratulations to all our Blizzard athletes on a fantastic day of skating this Saturday at the PG Long Track interclub competition. The ice was in great condition, and Mother Nature seems to have heard Keri's request for warmer temperatures (but not too warm). Many new PBs were set by our skaters! Thank you to all the volunteers - Officials and helping hands - for helping to make the meet so successful. Without you we could not offer our athletes the opportunity to compete on the Outdoor Oval. The Oval Ice Team did an amazing job getting the ice ready for Saturday - THANK YOU!! Congratulations to Keri McLeod (meet coordinator) and Kari Rae (meet recorder). These ladies are the cornerstones of our meets and put in a significant amount of work both up to and on the day of the meet. Great work ladies! Kari has provided the meet protocol if anyone has questions about the races. Results will be available on the BCSSA website very soon. 1. Fundraising Thank you to all that bought 50/50 tickets at our Long Track Meet this past Saturday. We are now entering the last half of the season. Thank you to everyone that has been fundraising with Operation Red Nose, Purdy's Chocolates, Save On Foods, Bottle Returns, and Fundscrip.
