Every Practice Day
Moving safety mats on/off the ice
- This requires the help of at least 6 parents each practice from the following groups, however, many hands make light work:
- FUNdamentals – Tuesdays mats on, Saturday mats offNovice/Intermediate – Thursday mats on
- Advanced – Monday mats on, Tuesdays mats off, Thursdays mats off
- Masters – Monday Mats off, Saturdays mats on.
- Mats go on the ice approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled ice time and must be off the ice by the end of the scheduled ice time.
- Moving mats takes approximately 10 minutes, and it is expected that all parents will take turns helping with this job.
- There are ice cleats and helmets available to those who prefer to wear them while walking on the ice.
- All youth must wear a helmet while assisting with mats regardless if they are wearing running shoes or skates.
Filling water buckets
- One parent from each group is needed to fill water buckets for use on the ice before the start of each practice. The buckets can be filled using the hose in the Zamboni room and transported using the ‘bucket cart’ to the ice surface. This job should rotate among parents so that everyone is familiar with how to do it. Note: This is not usually done for the FUNdamentals group.
